Stage 1 was always going to be a little interesting. It can be used to setup a good buffer for the rest of the week however, with the amount of rain around my focus was getting down the hill alive.
As the race is a time trial I was sent of second last with Andrew Fellows just 30 seconds behind. I think it only took him a few minutes to scream past me as I was in a section looking for the next arrow to follow. I stayed with him for as long as possible before some traffic got between us.
About 3/4 of the way through the course a managed to ride past Shaun Lewis and could see Andrew and Dylan Cooper not too far up the road. I felt as if I would have been faster running up the muddy grassy hills rather than riding as my legs felt dead and my lungs were burning.
In the end I rolled across the line in 3rd place, 50 seconds down on Andy and only a few seconds behind Dylan.
